GIVING BY ACTING HOLIDAY DONATION

 
Dear PCRID Members,
I want to let you know about the next opportunity to join PCRID in giving back to the Deaf community through our giving by acting program.

During our annual PCRID Conference this year, we will be collecting non-perishable food donations for Thanksgiving baskets to be given to Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) Columbia families. These donations will be collected on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the conference, which means that you can donate if you come to the full conference, if you come to part of the conference, or even if you will be in the area while the conference is taking place.

Please bring your items to the registration table in the hotel atrium just to the left of the main entrance.  The goal is to provide at least the basics for a Thanksgiving dinner, and so some sample food donations are canned vegetables, canned yams, boxed mashed potatoes, stove top stuffing, canned gravy, cranberry sauce, marshmallows (for the yams), etc.  Additional non-perishable food items are also accepted.  Any and all donations are appreciated.  Thank you in advance for being willing to give!

Additionally, we are in need of one volunteer to perform the special task of delivering these food items to MSD Columbia on either the Sunday of the conference or the following day (Monday, November 7th). Please contact me directly if you are interested in taking on this responsibility, as I will need to provide you with more information about location and coordination.

Spring 2012 - DAWN and PCRID - Giving By Acting Event

The first PCRID Giving By Acting Event will provide support to DAWN's Kickball Tournament this year. The details for the event are as follows: 

DAWN (Deaf Abused Women's Network) 

When: To Be Determined, Spring 2012

Where: MSSD Fields, 800 Florida Avenue, NE, Washington DC 20002

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (We may need volunteers earlier and you will be notified if thats the case.)

How can you help? 

  • 2-3 volunteers needed to help with the BBQ and food (afternoon)
  • 2 volunteers needed to help with team registration and liability forms. These volunteers will be paired with a DAWN staff member (morning)
  • 2-3 volunteers needed to help with set-up before the event and clean-up afterwards.

If you are interested in playing kickball as a PCRID team, its $20 per player and there are 7 to 9 players to a team. This includes food, drinks, and snacks. Attending the event costs $5 for food, drinks and snacks. These are all donations in support of DAWN.
